Schizophrenia circa 1986

Director, Cinematographer, Video Editor, Sound

When Ronald Reagan was President, ketchup was a vegetable, and cocaine was everywhere, I shot this 16mm film in New York City. Economic inequality really started to speed up in the era of “greed is good” and “the government is the problem.”  Homelessness and drug addiction ballooned.

All the dialogue is 100% guaranteed overheard. My actors just repeated real-life quotes I wrote down word for word. This film is the reason I learned Avid editing and is the first passion project I made and jokingly refer to as Short Attention Span Theatre.  I felt compelled to get it done, even 12 years later. I’m so glad because I really love to edit. I love to create, and I love to tell stories.

Schizophrenia circa 1986 was shown at a variety of film festivals. It was accepted at Outfest, The 19th Annual Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, Mix 2000, The 14th Annual Gay Experimental Film Festival, The Freaky Film Festival, and MicroCineFest.
