Guantanamo: A Legal Primer

Video Editor, Producer, Researcher, Writer

I grew up loving old movies. The bad guys were always the ones doing the torturing in those B&W films. So when I learned that it was US administration policy to torture people (a.k.a. “enhanced interrogation”), I got angry. This video is the result. It’s one of my Short Attention Span Theatre series where I do short passion projects. Because I have to.

This video is not about the immorality of torture, but a quick lesson about its illegality. It covers the Geneva Conventions, US law, and US military justice. The US Constitution is supposed to protect any person, regardless of status. Torture is happening in squad cars, jails, prisons, concentration camps, and black sites. So unfortunately, this video is as timely as ever.

Thanks to the great Jose Feliciano, who hasn’t made me take down his version of Guantanamera.
